Spinal alignment, balance, coordination, and proper musculoskeletal function all start with having strong and flexible feet. With 26 bones and a network of ligaments and muscles, the feet are an important and often overlooked, part of well-being. They truly are your foundation for healthy living.
At Utah Injury Clinic in Murray, our chiropractors create treatment plans that start from the ground up. After looking closely at your alignment and how you use your feet, we might prescribe custom foot orthotics to help you retrain your body. When fitted properly by a trained professional, these custom insoles can improve posture, enhance athletic performance, and reduce pain.

HOW FEET SHOULD WORK IN MURRAY
Understanding treatment starts with learning about how your foot is supposed to work on a biomechanical level. When walking normally, your foot should hit the ground first and fatty tissue beneath the heel bone should absorb most of the impact. Next, as the foot rolls forward on the outside edge, your plantar fascia should stretch out. The plantar fascia is the connective tissue between the heel and the ball of the foot. Once this fascia is stretched, the weight moves to the ball of the foot and toes so you can push off to propel yourself forward. Full flexibility is important, as is regular weight distribution. Without proper alignment, you could start having problems throughout your body.
In an arch up position, which occurs when you push off from the toe, the foot acts as a rigid, stabilizing lever. If the foot doesn’t reach the correct raised arch position, you can’t propel yourself forward effectively. Over time, this can cause bunions, plantar fasciitis (inflammation in the mass of fibers between the heel and ball of the foot), fallen arches, and metatarsal (pain in the ball of the foot).
When your arch up is correct, your weight will be distributed through strong muscles in the feet and legs rather than falling on the bone structure itself.
In arch down position, which occurs when the weight is on the heel, your feet need to absorb shock and adjust to varying terrains. If your arch down is less than ideal, you could have problems with your ankles, knees, and tendons because small muscles will absorb all the shock.
HOW CAN CUSTOM ORTHOTICS IN MURRY HELP?
Whether your foot problems were caused by an injury, genetics, poorly fitting shoes, or excessive weight, correcting the issue may be as simple as having the right kind of support. Our chiropractors will watch how you walk, note how your feet are aligned relative to your spine, look at the wear patterns on your shoes, and examine your muscles. Then, we will create a customized plan to get you back on track.
We can create custom orthotics for each foot, taking into account things such as injuries and differences in leg length. Our treatment plans include structural integration therapy, and we will educate you throughout the process. Our orthotics are about much more than providing cushioning they actually change the posture and function of your feet.
The cost for custom-made orthotics is initially greater than the cost for over-the-counter orthotics, but our solutions last up to 10 years and are made specifically for your body.
